What can a karting kid learn from one of the best Formula 1 drivers? Well, Fernando Alonso is a living answer to that question.

The Asturian has traveled a path full of ups and downs and anecdotes that show us not only his skill behind the wheel.

But also the pressure and sacrifices that come with achieving success in this sport… But what’s really behind the two-time world champion’s career?

The pressure from the start

We all like to think about the glories achieved by our idols. But for Fernando, those first steps were anything but easy.

In the documentary “Bravissimo,” he himself shares how difficult it was to compete in karting without sufficient financial resources.

Imagine having only a few opportunities to demonstrate your talent; it was race or be left out…

It was like playing on the edge of a cliff: each race carried a monumental weight on his shoulders.

“They gave me a race, and I had to win it if I wanted to keep racing,” he said. And of course, that kind of pressure leaves its mark—both emotionally and professionally—for your entire career.

He constantly risked saying goodbye to his dream if he couldn’t impress the right people…

In that difficult period, he won a crucial opportunity: to be a factory driver in Italy without having to pay a penny more (almost nothing).

That was the gateway to new categories and even to his subsequent rise to F1.

From Minardi to Renault: A meteoric rise for Fernando Alonso

Anyone might think that after arriving in F1 with Minardi (a small team), he was set… but that’s where it all started again.

He debuted in 2001, with plenty of heart but a less-than-competitive car, almost always fighting from the back.

However… what a surprise! Destiny had something better in store for him when Renault arrived.

The story changed dramatically between 2003 and 2006 when he became a two-time world champion (incidentally, his only titles to date).

Here we can see how everything changes when you have the right team by your side…

Technically speaking, something key happened when Alonso reached the podium under the wing of the French team:

They possessed brilliant engineers and innovative techniques capable of creating fast and reliable cars;

That’s vital for fighting for consistent victories.

I find it incredible how some strategic moves within the paddock can change everything for a driver.

Aston Martin: A breath of fresh air or nostalgia for the past?

Here’s where it gets exciting… Is Fernando ready to return to the fray? Aston Martin has big ambitions for the future (2026 is getting closer).

With Lawrence Stroll investing millions—and time—it’s clear they’re looking to position themselves as serious contenders in the most prestigious circus on wheels.

“The goal is simple: to win again.” Those are heavy words when it’s been thirteen years since their last victory…

But what exactly does this mean? For me (and many fans), it implies the real possibility—yes—that this might be their last chance before closing that chapter after two fantastic decades.

Furthermore, competing against these motorized monsters every year brings out the best—and often the worst—even mentally.

Because it takes immense resilience; you can suffer terribly both physically and emotionally while others seem to keep improving unstoppably.

Doubts about their immediate future

Herein lies an essential question… When I look ahead, I see glimmers of hope, but also too much uncertainty regarding their actual performance against equally strong rivals.

A lot of composure is needed!

It’s tempting to think “everything’s fine” simply because they’ve made significant changes, but we must be aware—however—that the car remains vital here.

We talk a lot about romantic possibilities…

Although many voices suggest necessary technical changes, obviously supported by the right drivers already perfectly aligned with their specific skills…

So it would be fascinating to see if he manages to adapt again. And of course, let’s not forget who’s trying to dominate this ‘game’:

Ferrari continues to push hard while Mercedes seeks to recover lost ground (thanks, Hamilton).

To summarize… it will be interesting to see who will prove particularly fast in these planned head-to-head battles, both at the top and bottom, during pre-season testing and the initial races.

My Personal Analysis

From my personal point of view… I sincerely believe we are witnessing something special here with our beloved Fernando Alonso.

At this point, we should ask ourselves if there is still a sporting career left—at some point—after a successful, albeit risky, start as a young man, full of pure nerves 😅 Lessons are necessarily accompanied by permanent dissatisfaction!

I also feel anxious/reserved, although I would prefer to hear of a worthy victory.
